Day two.

Day two of new kitten parenthood went much better than day one. Starbuck is now getting used to the apartment and us. He just loves laying in his new cat bed, and loves climbing on top of the sofa or the recliner to hang out and sleep.

He started using his litter box yesterday without any encouragement from me, and he's even not fighting the eye drops we give him as much as he was before. Although I can tell he still hates them.

Last night while we were all hanging out in the livingroom, he crawled up Joe, curled up on his chest and fell asleep. It was the cutest thing. I absolutely love Starbuck. In just two short days, he's already changed my life.

It's a boy!

Joe and I have been talking for a while now about adding a pet to our little family, and up until yesterday the decision always ended with "eventually, we'll adopt an older cat, not a kitten."

But yesterday at around 4am, a cute little bundle of fur and an older cat were crossing the street, and the older cat got hit by a car. The cute little bundle of fur, one of the neighborhood strays cried and cried and cried for hours over the loss of his mother, or sister, or friend.

So Joe and I took the little bundle of fur in. After a trip to the vet, we learned he is a realitively healthy 3.5 month baby boy. He has ear mites and pink eye, along with sneezing and a runny nose. He is now on anti-biotics and needs to be given eye drops three times a day.

But despite his tramutic day yesterday, he remains a bundle of love and energy. He's a good cat who likes to be pet, follow you around, and loves to climb on to the top of the couch and purr in your ear.

Before we knew if he was a boy or a girl, we decided to name him Starbuck. It works either way. In the original Battlestar Galactica, Starbuck was a man, and in the new one, a woman.

Please don't mind the crappy picture quality, they're from my cell phone.

Now, I have a favor to ask of all of you fellow cat owners out there. Joe and I are new to this whole kitten thing, so any tips you have to offer would be greatly appreciated. Especially on litterbox training. I know it's been less than 24 hours since he's been in the apartment, so I don't expect him to get it right away, but so far he seems to prefer carpeted corners to his litterbox, and I don't want it to become a regular thing.

I know it's been over a month since I've last posted, and I apologize. There hasn't been much to blog about here, at least nothing fun and interesting. There hasn't been much knitting here. Most days I'm in so much pain, I can't knit more than one or two rows.

It seems like when it rains it pours doesn't it? First it's PCOD, which we're still trying to get under control, then it's extreme pain in my wrists and hands anytime I move them (carpal tunnel syndrome), and of course I pick this crazy stressful time to quit smoking.

The smoking thing is the hardest of all. My doctor prescribed Wellbutrin to help with the nicotine cravings, but it didn't mix well with everything else I've been taking so I'm now attempting it the natural way.

Wish me luck. It's the hardest thing I've ever tried to do!

I'll be back and posting more regularly soon! :)
